Zıtlık Bağlaçları: although, whereas, while, despite

although / even though / though + cümle: … e rağmen. despite / in spite of + isim / V-ing. whereas / while: oysa, … iken (iki şeyi karşılaştırır). however / nevertheless / nonetheless: cümleler arası, noktalı virgül ya da noktadan sonra. 'Whereas the role of calcium has received a lot of attention, few people realise the importance of magnesium.'

YDS Tuzağı: 'despite' ve 'in spite of' doğrudan cümle almaz: 'despite it was raining' yanlış; 'despite the fact that it was raining' doğru. 'however' iki cümleyi virgülle bağlayamaz.

Çift Bağlaçlar ve Karşılaştırma: not only … but also, just as

not only … but also: sadece … değil, aynı zamanda. both … and; either … or; neither … nor. the more …, the more: ne kadar … o kadar. just as: tıpkı … gibi ('We have two brains just as we have two lungs'). such + (a) sıfat + isim + that; so + sıfat / zarf + that: o kadar … ki.

YDS Tuzağı: 'neither … nor' cümleyi olumsuz yapar; anlamca 'hem … hem de' gerekiyorsa çeldiricidir. 'Not only' cümle başına gelirse devrik olur: 'Not only does it affect patients, but it also …'

Sebep, Sonuç ve Amaç Bağlaçları

Sebep (+ cümle): because, since, as, now that (madem artık), given that, seeing that. Sebep (+ isim): because of, due to, owing to, thanks to (olumlu). Sonuç: so, therefore, thus, hence, consequently, as a result. Amaç: so that, in order to, so as to, in order that.

YDS Tuzağı: 'thanks to' olumlu sebep içindir; olumsuz bir sonuçta 'due to / owing to' seç. 'since' hem 'çünkü' hem 'den beri' demektir; zaman ifadesi geliyorsa (since 2010) anlam değişir.
