YDS'nin 27-36. soruları: yarım bırakılan cümleyi dil bilgisi (zaman uyumu, bağlaç, özne-zamir uyumu) ve anlam (sebep-sonuç, zıtlık, koşul) bakımından tamamlayan seçeneği bulma.
although, even though, while, whereas, despite the fact that, but, yet: iki tarafın anlamı birbirine ters olmalı. 'Although the city is very spread out, many of its main attractions are close to one another.' (yayılmış şehir ↔ yakın turistik yerler).
YDS Tuzağı: 'Even if' ve 'even though' farklıdır: 'even though' gerçek bir durumu ('… olduğu hâlde'), 'even if' varsayımsal bir durumu ('… olsa bile') anlatır.
since / as / because / given that + sebep: 'Since older people tend to have chronic illnesses, they use health care services more heavily.' so (sonuç), so that (amaç), so … that / such … that (o kadar … ki). 'As contradictory advice appears every day, people argue whether X is good or bad.'
YDS Tuzağı: Sebep cümlesinin öznesi zamirle verildiyse (they, it), doğru şık bu zamirin gösterdiği ismi taşımalı: 'Since THEY tend to have chronic illnesses, OLDER PEOPLE …'.
If-cümlelerinde tip uyumu sorulur: 'If you own a property but do not live in it all year, you can rent it out.' (Type 1, gerçek olasılık). 'If + Past' ise 'would'; 'If + had V3' ise 'would have V3' içeren şık aranır.
YDS Tuzağı: If'li yarım cümle Type 2 ise (If they had more time) şıklarda 'will' olan cümleler elenir; Type 3 ise (If they had known) yalnızca 'would / could / might have V3' kalır.
